Even though he can be analizing structures, the truth is that he is only looking for the subject. The most important thing he needs to do is to analize the way each text describes the subject. It can be that one text talks about something direct and clear but in the other text, even the subject is the same, could be explained by the way the characters or even the author refers to the subject. could be through the feelings of the characters or it could be by direct statements
