The answer is D. The story happens in Victorian London, where the story's hero/storyteller, Henry Adams, has wound up poor and in clothes after a drifting mishap in the U. S. cleared him out to ocean. Two extremely rich and unusual siblings spot him and give him an envelope with no data. Seeing cash inside the envelope, Henry promptly sets out toward a shabby eating house, and he hauls the cash out of the envelope after he eats.
