    B. matter means issue in this case, therefore settled is being used to explain the issue is solved.

    C. the immigrants found comfort in Maryland, they settled there

    D. as the truck is going by, dust is flying, but as the truck furthers, the dust settles back down (this happens with leaves and water from puddles as cars go by)
