Hello! An example of symbolism in the Giver, that I find most prominent is the color red. For us, it describes passion, love, and intensity; something fiery and hot. If you recall, the first color Jonas sees is red when he's tossing the apple. Ironically the apple gets Jonas in trouble when the announcement is made to the community about not hoarding food. The apple also got Adam and Eve in trouble. On another note, The Giver notices that Fionea's hair is red, who Jonas has the hots for. He's passionate about her and has a crush on her even though it is forbidden.
