As stated on her "Last Rites for Indian Dead", Indian remains had been collected from burial sites as artifacts--specifically for racial biological studies. She further emphasized why Native American remains should not be collected. She said: remains of American Indian people must be recognized by their country. They are not artifacts. These remains should not be bought and sold as collector's items.
