Do predators really kill only the old and sick prey

    Yes ... But it depends on the predator ... Whoever the predator is

    No; they also prey on the young and the weak, and if none of any of those exist they will prey on others, it's just that those are the easiest to catch. There are however cases where they will pick whatever happens to be there; such as when birds eat worms, since they can't fight back.
