Maybe because Mike is a boy and Sal and Pheobe are girls and usually boys are stereotyped to spit a lot.

The answer is D - Sal and Phoebe take courage from their actions and decide to face their own fears. Sal regains enough confidence to face Mrs. Cadaver and form a bond. Phoebe may still be jealous by a new brother which just some how appears out of no where, but can now rely on her mother to be more honest, and not selfish.
