A.) because in the book the author is writing in the context that our protagonist is almost day dreaming about the old days of feudalism and presents the idea that maybe modernization is dangerous. The feudal system is primitive yes but is known. If we advance it could be disastrous. He is kind and spend most of the time pursuing a fine lady, who is actually a low-classes maid, so A is the best answer.
