This ‘hymn’ was written around 2100 BCE by a man named Khety, who was apparently of low birth. Although he wrote a number of other essays, we know very little else about the author. The ‘hymn’ refers to Egyptian religion and its relationship to the Nile but also hints at the economy and wider social structure.
