The Act that was implemented for acquiring the land that the Indians settled on was the Indian Removal Act in 1830. This arrangement obliged the national government to pass the Act on May 28, 1830, in which President Jackson granted the division of the United States territory west of the Mississippi to exchange the land they were removed from into districts rather than tribes. It was promised by President Jackson that the land would be forever owned by the Indians. Debates were raised whether the act was constitutional or if he had the authority to protect the sovereignty of the Indians.
