The anglo-saxon poetry period talked a lot about great warriors and battles. They had to memorize them because there was no writing so they often used things like alliteration which would make it easier to remember. In the renaissance, they mostly used the iambic pentameter and since they could write they didn't have to use common patterns seen before. They mostly talked about love during the Renaissance.
