If I came across a unfamiliar word what should I do to figure it out?

    Use context clues. The more familair you become at doing this, the easier it is for you to rapidly increase your vocabulary. Using a dictionary is fine as well, but you tend to look for answers rather practicing your learning abIlity. Whichever works best for you.
