What color best represents hopelessness and why?

To me the color that most accurately resembles hopelessness is the gray. Gray reminds me of that feeling you get when you are outside, it's beautiful, then out of no where rain starts falling down. You have no umbrella to Shelter you. Everything starts to turn gray around you.
