Ways in which they differ are numerous. 14th century poetry usually had strict form and respected metric and rhyme, dealing usually with epic topics. Nowadays, poetry is usually written in free verse meaning there is usually no rhythm or rhyme, and usually features impressions and emotions of the narrator.
