Choose either "Diary 24" or "Diary 33" from The Freedom Writers Diary by Erin Gruwell and the Freedom Writers. Evaluate the text you choose by determining its value according to your standards.

The correct response will clearly establish the student’s personal criteria for 1) what makes a work valuable and 2) the characteristics and elements of a good piece of writing. Advanced responses will also compare the text to other texts that serve as good examples. Appropriate responses must evaluate the text based on the personal criteria set forth by the student and establish whether or not the text is valuable.
