Do supposedly silent letters have any effect on pronunciation?

    In some cases yes like phone you can't hear the "h" but when with the p it makes an "F" sound. In other cases it doesn't make a sound

    If they are a silent letter than they do not but if they weren't silent then it would have a big effect.
