    Firstly, only the 'hurricanes' that form over the Atlantic or pacific ocean are called hurricanes. Other places may know them as typhoons or cyclones. Hurricanes usually form near the equator over warm ocean waters. They effect ecology because they destroy anything in it's path therefore humans, infrastructure and forests can be destroyed and that is where animals are and destroying their homes will affect the population of particular animals. Therefore it severely affects the ecology.
