All we need to do is to divide both sides by the greatest number that those numbers can be divided by. In this case 8 will do the job for both:

24 : 8 = 3

16 : 8 = 2

So 24 : 16 in its lowest term is as much as 3 : 2

24/16 is not a ratio. It needs to be written 24:16.

First lets divide it by two. 24/2 is 12 and 16/2 is 8. Now you have 12:8.

divide by 4 this time. 12/4 is three and 8/4 is 2.

so now you have 3:2. To turn it into a fraction, you just write it 3/2. There you go.

And if you want it in a mixed number, it would be 1 and one half.
