Which statement best describes why many people in the South supported slavery? Northerners had never believed slavery should be allowed. Southerners believed their way of life depended on slavery. African Americans were not allowed to live in areas of the North. The religion of many southerners justified the use of slave labor.

    Southerners believed their way of life depended on slavery.

    This answer is, in my opinion, most correct because the southern plantation owners need workers (enslaved Africans) to farm the fields so they could make money from their crops.
