How is Poe’s word choice different than Byron’s? Poe confesses more about shortcomings than Byron. I would say this is the case especially since Poe was poverty stricken and did not have the strong financial means that Lord Byron had so it is likely this was reflected in Poe's writings and self-esteem. I think it would be like the difference between the famous English geologist, William 'Strata' Smith and his aristocratic armchair peers. Smith depended on his geological knowledge for his livelihood so it had to be correct, whereas the armchair 'geologists' of the Royal Society had independent means of existence and so the consequences ofgeological knowledge was far less immediate to them.
