On the trip to the city, tom drives gatsby's car. what is ironic about tom's comment, "you can buy anything at a drugstore nowadays."

    In "The Great Gatsby", a story told by Nick Carraway, one of the characters is named Tom who was a broker. One of Tom's lines in the story was, "You can buy anything at a drugstore nowadays." What is ironic about this is that the name drugstore implies that all they sell are drugs.
