Mama uses animals to describe Maggie’s personality. Mama had likened Maggie with a lame dog because of her low-self esteem. Mama thinks that Maggie does not see herself as a person worth respecting. Mama also likened Maggie with a limp-fish because she was not able to protect something that seems to be very important to her.
