I happen to use this first Harry Potter book in one of my creative writing classes because you can learn so much about story structure from it. As Clarence explained well, the main conflict (the "dramatic question") revolves around the Sorceror's Stone of the title, yet a big goal of the book is to introduce the world of Hogwarts. The challenge here was to make the book dramatic even though the main antagonist, Voldemort, is not in Harry's face until near the end. The way she does it is come up with other, lesser antagonists, including the Dursleys, Draco Malfoy, some of the professors, especially Snape, and Harry's opponents in Quidditch.
