"Douglass describes his time with Master Covey as being a wretched experience, making him miss his time with Master Hugh that much more."

    I would choose the answer B - Unhappy, full of misery, because in the second sentence (after the comma) Douglas was full of pain and miss another experience even more. He can clearly see what was it - that makes the C answer not proper for this case.
