Which line from the story foreshadows the trick the niece will play?

"'Her great tragedy happened just three years ago,' said the child; 'that would be since your sister's time.'"

"'My aunt will be down presently, Mr. Nuttel,' said a very self-possessed young lady of fifteen; 'in the meantime you must try and put up with me.'"

'"Do you know, sometimes on still, quiet evenings like this, I almost get a creepy feeling that they will all walk in through that window--'"

"'Then you know practically nothing about my aunt?' pursued the self-possessed young lady."

I believe the answer would be "My aunt will be down presently, Mr. Nuttel,' said a very self-possessed young lady of fifteen; 'in the meantime you must try and put up with me."

The characterization we are given of her being self-possessed, as well as her vocalization of "you must try and put up with me" gives us insight as to what type of person she is through both primary and secondary characterization. It paints her as a confident and mischievous young woman.
