The significance of Rakesh's act to touch his father's feet is to show how devoted he is to his parent. As the story progresses, the father does not recognize his son's devotion toward him even though Rakesh already had touch his feet to show Rakesh's devotion. This part is taken from "A Devoted Son" short-story written by Anita Desai.
