Analyze this sentence from the story: "He tried to coerce his mind into thinking of it, but the mind was dominated at this time by the muscles, and the muscles said they did not care." What does the word coerce mean here? Why was there a need to "coerce his mind"?

    Coerce means to do something by using force or threats, he wants to force himself into thinking of it but could not achieve it because his muscles were preventing it.
