Jay Gatsby is an example of the American dream since he goes from having absolutely nothing to becoming a billionaire he is great because he has worked hard to achieve what he has. In the novel Nick says " He had a gift of hope "

This shows that Gatsby had hope and was an example to others that it was not impossible.

Therefore Gatsby was great in the eyes of Nick and to others as an example of the American Dream
