    In Georg Orwell’s dystopian novel "1984", the main actor Winston Smith’s job is altering historical records at the Ministry of Truth. His job eventually makes him doubt the Party, when he realizes that the Party is lying to them and robs them of their memories in order to control them: "They remembered a million useless things, a quarrel with a workmate, a hunt for a lost bicycle pump, the expression on a long-dead sister’s face, the swirls of dust on a windy morning seventy years ago; but all the relevant facts were outside the range of their vision".
