In this unit, you have been studying the theme of war and peace. This theme is present in many items besides literature. For this required chat, go online and find two songs related to war or to peace. Some suggestions might be Metallica's "One," U2's "Sunday Bloody Sunday," Michael Franti's " Bomb the World," or Lenny Kravitz's "We Want Peace." Answer the following questions and summarize them in a paragraph in preparation for your required chat with your teacher. How does each song interpret the theme of war or of peace? Does each author directly state what they mean in the song or are there places where you have to figure out what is really meant? (For example, does the writer use satire, sarcasm, irony, or understatement.) Provide at least one specific example from one of the songs. How do the songs represent the historical time period in which they were written? You will have to conduct research to answer this question.
