At the beginning of the animal’s "governing", it is a sort of utopia. The animals feel free and motivated to make this new system work. Over time in the novella, their perfect utopia begins to crumple. The working animals begin to become exhausted and grow tired of this new government while the "smarter" and "able" animals take advantage of the others’ work. They begin to give the working less and less of their share and they become exhausted. By the end of the story, the utopia style of their government has entirely crumpled. This novella is meant to demonstrate why communism as a concept would not work and it does an amazing job doing so.
