The correct answer here is buttercup.

D'Artagnan has begun his journey to Paris with two gifts from his father a letter of introduction for Monsieur de Tréville and an old yellow horse who walks funny. He arrives at the inn called the Jolly Miller where three gentlemen are making a joke about his horse. The gentlemen, when asked by D'Artagnan, says that horse once must have been a buttercup a color very well known in botany but it is extremely rare in "modern" horses.
