1. C. He wants them to leave the house.

Montressor knows that if he tells his servants he will not be back until the morning that they will leave as he will not be there to check on them. It is also a time of great celebration where he lives and the servants want nothing more than to go party. In the quote it says that his instructions "insure their immediate disappearance."
