    Okonkwo is obsessed with masculinity and has striven to be seen as manly his entire life. So, when he learns his son, Nwoye, has joined joined a group of missionaries in Umuofia, he becomes upset fearing that they're weak and effeminate. Even though he learns that his son is happy.
