He fell down because he is clumsy (internal attribution). I fell down because the furniture was haphazardly arranged (external attribution).

The Attribution theory explains the ways in which we give reasons, for behaviors that we observe, in real life. In other words, its how we explain the reasons for our own behaviors, as well as the behaviors of other people.
