In 250-300 words, explain the jury's deliberation in the trial and how it reflects on the character of the town.

If the jury makes eye contact with the defendant, then most likely they aren't guilty, but if the jury doesn't make eye contact with the defendant, they feel guilty for convicting the man and don't look at him.

    She knows because a jury never looks at a defendant. The broader implication of the jury's behavior is that they won't look at Tom because they know he is innocent and is being convicted to his death!
