    Major themes of the enlightenment were reason, individualism, and skepticism. Enlightenment philosophes were challenging traditional religious views with their ideas, and they were typically humanists. Philosophes were skeptical of many things, such as religious dogma and even of the nature of what is real and what isn’t.
