The story of A long Way Gone depicts the true happening in the life of Ishmael Beah. When he was just 12 years old, he went away for a while to perform with his friends in a rap group, when we went home, he found out that the whole village he lived in, including his family, was attacked.

Beah then became the person he feared he would become, a killing machine. He was recruited to becoming a boy soldier who were taught that killing the rebels would allow him and other soldiers to avenge the death of their loved ones.
