Although Marguerite’s thoughts tell the reader directly that she was embarrassed, her actions let the reader infer that she was also eager.

She says 'I couldn't have refused even if I wanted to.' This means that she obviously didn't want to refuse the offer, thus telling us that she was eager to do it, even though she was clearly also embarrassed about not talking in class.
