Gatsby was or rather is, in love with Daisy. 'He looked at her the way all girls want to be looked at". In the beginning, they were in love, but then Gatsby went off to war and never returned or return in time, rather. Daisy almost didn't marry Tom due to a letter she received from Gatsby the day of her wedding. You can tell she loved Gatsby just from the fact that she basically lost it hours before her wedding. But then daisy did end up marrying tom, unfortunately. Despite all of that, Gatsby would have done anything for Daisy. She's the reason he threw all of those crazy parties! Daisy loved Gatsby for everything, which, i think is pretty transparent.
