When Hamlet ordered Ophelia to go to a nunnery she went in great despair following which she committed suicide. It was during the Elizabethan era that women were much concerned about their reputation in the society and in the eyes of their male counterparts. Hamlet was so upset with his mother’s decision to marry his uncle that he suggested Ophelia to become a nun rather than marrying and giving birth to any child in future.
