Basic elements that the British failed to provide were fostering the economic independence of a new nation unshackled by colonialism, the right to govern oneself by a new fledgling nation and decide its own fate rather than be ruled by the dictates of a foreign power wherein the 13 colonies were just pawns in their imperial design.

According to Thomas Jefferson, a ll men are created equal and there are certain unalienable rights that governments should never violate. These certain unalienable rights include the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

The British failed to protect the people's alienable rights. In fact, they blatantly violated these rights as they colonized America. Thus, the American people were motivated to overthrow their colonizers and form their own government who will serve and protect their rights to liberty, life, and pursuit of happiness.
