What might Paul Laurence Dunbar mean in the following lines from his poem "We Wear the Mask"? We smile, but, O great Christ, our cries To thee from tortured souls arise.

    Maybe it means we call out to God to save us from the torture down here and the souls in hell cry out to him to. We wear a mask that shows we are happy but in reality we are angry at the world
