During the roaring 20's the rich were partying a lot and having fun basically throwing away money. While the poor weren't happy. They were suffering. World War 1 ended in 1918 so Americans were looking to get back to normal life. A good example for the 1920's would be the book and/or the movie "The Great Gatsby" it shows what the typical urban life was like.
