    One line from the story is "Englishmen always eat dinner before they go out to dinner, because they know the risks they are running."

    Twain explained that Englishmen are used to attend formal dinner because they know that there is a possibility that the dinner will be cut off because of picking to who should take precedence at the dinner table.
