He refuses to marry a woman who doesn't have enough money. Kovaloff wake up one morning to discover that his nose was gone. He made several attempt to look for his nose without any success. Kovaloff believed that his nose disappeared because of the widow who laid a curse on him. The widow wanted Kovaloff, who is a bachelor to marry her daughter but he refused because he preferred someone who is rich. He wrote a letter to the woman accusing her of cursing him and asked her to undo the harm. Eventually, Kovaloff got his nose back. This makes him very happy and he decided that he will not marry the girl after all.
