Everybody started picking up trash. What would be a touch for sensory details

Since sensory details have to do with the appeal of our 5 senses (hearing, smelling, tasting, touching, and seeing) you could go for something along the lines of:

Everybody grudgingly picked up the foul-smelling trash.

or

Mumbling angrily, everybody picked up the rotting and foul garbage.
