    Nwoye is so captivated by the religion preached by the white missionary because A) He is moved by the poetry in the hymns and C) He finds certain customs in the Igbo religion barbaric. Nyowe received the white missionaries preach in Mbanta. The white missionaries sang a joyful hymn about a new way of life which is different than barbaric Igbo's customs.
