The book is about a Jewish shoemaker who is seeking a worthy husband for his daughter. The shoemaker want his daughter to marry a man who is educated and well read. Thus, he was dismayed to discover that his daughter had no interest in the educated boy he introduced to her but rather she is interested in her father's assistant, who is uneducated.
