Both tell the story effectively, but the poems bring us closer to Persephone's experience of being kidnapped. we see the mother's sorrow more completely in myth. there's more of a sense of what was lost in the poem than in the myth we are left wondering what Persephone's life might have been like had she escaped from Hades completely instead of being condemned to spend part of every year below ground with him.
